Modogashe Eye Camp in Garissa (May, 2022)

Camp Breakdown

Madogashe is a small remote village in Kenya that is part of Garissa County neighboring several other villages that are part of Isiolo and wajir counties in the North eastern part of Kenya. The Eye Camp mission was sponsored by TA’ALOF AL KHAIR through GIFT OF KINDNESS implemented by SAFE SURGICAL AID.

The mission started off with one (1) month of screening and preparing the patients and five (5) days of surgeries that started on 9 th May 2022 and ended on 13 th May 2022. The eye camp attracted approximately 530 patients from across the villages out of which 175 of them were operated after thorough screening was done and diagnosed with Cataract while 355 were given medications and advised on further follow up at Madogashe Sub county Hospital.

On 25 th May 2022 the specialists revisited the operated patients and their vision and general wellbeing was reassessed. It was a successful mission with a lot life changing experience and lessons that reaffirmed our commitment to prevent and end any form of blindness.
