Eye Camp in Ijara, November 2021
Safe Surgical Aid conducted the November free medical camp in Ijara Constituency of Garissa County. The camp was hosted at The Masalani Sub-County Hospital, a level four hospital in Masalani Town. Masalani is a small town, located in South-East of Kenya and is 540km away from Nairobi and 204km from Garissa, the headquarter of the county. The people generally are poor and lead a pastoralist and nomadic lifestyle. They rely on livestock rearing and small-scale subsistence farming. In collaboration with Kuwaiti Horizons Charity Society, Relief Organization of East Africa and The Department of Health of the county government of Garissa, Safe Surgical Aid carried out a week long screening be from 24th October to 30th October, 2021. We screened over 450 patients in that period and identified 210 cases that required surgical intervention. The free surgical camp was conducted from 5th Nov to 8th Nov 2021 at Masalani Sub-County Hospital.
