INTRODUCTION.
Safe Surgical Aid, in collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross Society, conducted a successful medical camp in
Dadaab Refugee Camp from September 4th to 8th, 2023. The primary focus of this medical camp was to
provide eye care and surgeries for adult patients suffering from various eye ailments, with a majority of cases
being cataracts. This report provides a comprehensive overview of the camp, including screening, surgeries,
funding sources, and post-operation care.
SCREENING CAMP
The screening camp was conducted over a period of three days, during which a total of 1,050 patients were
screened for various eye conditions. The screening locations included Ifo, Dagahley, Hagardera, and the host
community in Dadaab. The screening process aimed to identify patients in need of surgical intervention and
those requiring other forms of eye care.
SURGICAL PROCEDURES
The surgical procedures were conducted over a span of five days, from September 4th to 8th, 2023, at the
Dadaab Hospital, managed by the Kenya Red Cross Society. A dedicated team of surgeons, nurses, and
anesthetists worked diligently to perform a total of 250 successful eye surgeries. These surgeries included
cataract removal and other necessary procedures to restore vision to the affected individuals.
FUNDING SOURCES
Safe Surgical Aid would like to extend its gratitude to the following organizations for their generous support in
making this medical camp possible:
1. Patients Helping Fund Society (Kuwait): Patients Helping Fund Society, a charity organization from
Kuwait, partnered with Relief Organization of East Africa, a Kenyan NGO, to sponsor 200 surgeries.
